KVS Urges Government to Drop Plan for New Law University in Bengaluru

Karnatak Vidyavardhakh Sangha (KVS) working president Basavaprabhu Hosakeri has urged the Karnataka government to drop its proposal to establish a new law university in Bengaluru or Bengaluru South district, calling the move condemnable.

Speaking at a press conference, Hosakeri noted that the Karnataka State Law University is already functioning in Hubballi. He stated that the government is currently planning to set up a second institution, titled the Karnataka State Southern Law University, in the Bengaluru region.

Hosakeri demanded the immediate withdrawal of the proposal, arguing that the reasoning behind establishing another university in the southern part of the state reflects a sense of intolerance toward the existing institution located in North Karnataka.

He pointed out that the law university in Hubballi has been functioning for nearly 15 years and has achieved an 'A' grade accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The institution currently has 109 law colleges affiliated with it across the state.

Despite its track record, the existing university continues to face significant infrastructure deficits. Hosakeri highlighted ongoing shortages, including inadequate library facilities, insufficient administrative office space, and vacancies among both teaching faculty and non-teaching staff.

He stated that rather than investing resources to establish a parallel law university, the state government should prioritize allocating funds to provide all necessary infrastructure, personnel, and facilities to the Hubballi campus.

Hosakeri added that the KVS will formally submit a letter to the Chief Minister urging the state administration not to move forward with the plan to create another law university in Karnataka.
