KPTCL Commissions 12-Km 220 kV Transmission Line Across Bengaluru

KPTCL Commissions 12-Km 220 kV Transmission Line Across Bengaluru

The Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) has commissioned a 12-km-long 220 kV multi-circuit transmission line, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Bengaluru's electrical transmission network. The project reinforces grid infrastructure across major pockets of the city, supporting supply to key areas including Hoodi, HBR Layout, and Manyata Tech Park.

The project establishes double Line-In Line-Out connectivity to two existing corridors: the 220 kV Hoodi-HBR Layout transmission line and the ITI–Manyata Tech Park transmission line. This connection is drawn from a cable terminating tower situated near the Bagalur Road crossing.

To navigate installation challenges within the city, engineers technically utilised a portion of the available transmission alignment in the Vidyanagar area to erect the 220 kV multi-circuit transmission line. KPTCL noted that the engineering solution was designed specifically to match the technical and site-specific requirements of the project.

Explaining the complex urban execution, KPTCL stated: "Development of transmission infrastructure in densely populated urban areas requires careful consideration of space constraints, existing electrical networks, roads and other urban infrastructure. For this particular project, the local conditions, technical feasibility and operational requirements were comprehensively assessed before adopting an appropriate engineering design and execution methodology."

The state power utility affirmed that the new transmission system will bolster Bengaluru's overall grid capacity and operational reliability. Furthermore, the upgraded link significantly improves the transmission network's capability to cater to the city's steadily growing power demand.

Minister for Energy KJ George emphasised the necessity of expanding city infrastructure to keep pace with growth, stating: "Power demand in Bengaluru is continuously increasing, and the transmission infrastructure must be strengthened accordingly. Every transmission project in an urban area requires a solution based on local conditions, technical feasibility and future system requirements."

Reiterating the engineering approach, KPTCL Managing Director V Ram Prasath Manohar said: "The local conditions and technical requirements of this project were unique. After a comprehensive assessment, a technically feasible design and implementation methodology were adopted."
