KJ George Orders ₹2 Crore Upgrade for Mayura Hotel and Bengaluru Museum Revamp

Tourism Minister K.J. George conducted a surprise inspection of prominent cultural and tourist landmarks in Bengaluru on Wednesday, August 19, directing officials to take immediate steps for the comprehensive development and renovation of Bal Bhavan, KSTDC’s Mayura Hotel, the Government Museum, and the Venkatappa Art Gallery.
The directive aims to enhance the overall experience for children, families, and visiting tourists while bringing the city's heritage closer to the public.
During his visit, Mr. George instructed officials to undertake a comprehensive upgrade of the KSTDC Mayura Hotel at an estimated cost of ₹2 crore. He ordered the preparation of a development plan centred on modern infrastructure, ensuring the provision of quality food, and creating a convenient environment for visitors. The Minister highlighted the need to prioritise children's preferred snacks and dishes on the menu and stated that the upgraded Mayura Hotel should serve as a model for other KSTDC-run properties across the state. As part of the restaurant upgrade plan, Mr. George also held discussions regarding a lease extension with the chairman of Bal Bhavan.
Following the inspection at Bal Bhavan, the Minister visited the Bengaluru Government Museum to review the progress of its ongoing renovation works. Emphasising the need to bring historical heritage closer to the public, Mr. George directed officials to expedite the project and ensure the transformation is completed within the next six months so the facility can be reopened to tourists and the general public.
Mr. George also toured the Venkatappa Art Gallery, where he viewed the various artworks on display. To boost footfall and attract more visitors and tourists to the venue, he instructed officials to formulate plans for organising regular art exhibitions, cultural programmes, and related activities at the gallery.
