Kiara Academy to Stage Musical 'Out of the Ordinary' at Chowdiah Memorial Hall

The Kiara Academy of Performing Arts is set to stage its annual musical, titled "Out of the Ordinary," at Chowdiah Memorial Hall in Bengaluru on August 28 and August 29. The production is part of the academy's ongoing "In the Mood" series, which has been presented annually for the past six years.

According to Wendy Dickson, Director of the Kiara Academy of Performing Arts, each edition of the series centres on a distinct theme. Following last year's tribute to the jazz standard "Take Five," this year's production draws its title from Alex Warren's song "Ordinary."

The first half of the show will feature a wide range of musical genres taught at the academy, including jazz from the 1920s and 1940s, classical compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, a dedicated performance on a Pink number by intermediate students, and a Latin rock segment. It will also feature live music alongside rock and metal tributes, including a six-song medley honouring rock acts such as Freddie Mercury and Guns N' Roses, performed alongside choreographed dance routines.

The second half of the performance will showcase Disney and rock musical numbers. Several performers in their early twenties, who began training at the academy at the age of four, have contributed their own creative ideas and interpretations to the stage production.

The show has been curated by the academy's Assistant Director Tina Dickson Franco and choreographed by 19-year-old Rachel Ann Franco.

A portion of the proceeds from the performance will go toward supporting the Bosco Rainbow Home for Girls, continuing an eight-year partnership. The non-governmental organisation provides shelter, rehabilitation, and education to girls aged between four and 16 who have been rescued from vulnerable situations.

The show is scheduled to take place at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on August 28 at 7 p.m. and August 29 at 6 p.m. Tickets start at Rs 499 and are available on District as well as at Lusitania Stores on Brigade Road and Mosque Road.
