KEA Warns Bengaluru Parents Against Fraudulent Agents Promising Medical Seats

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) on Monday issued a strong warning to students and parents in Bengaluru against fraudulent agents who are falsely promising to secure medical seats outside the official counseling process.

KEA Executive Director H Prasanna released the cautionary statement following several complaints received by the authority. These complaints detailed instances of individuals claiming they could arrange medical seats under the management and Non-Resident Indian (NRI) quotas.

Prasanna clarified that all seat allotments, including management and NRI quota seats, will be carried out exclusively through the KEA. He stated that any individuals claiming they can secure seats through other means are attempting to mislead and cheat candidates.

While private medical colleges in Karnataka have the authority to fix the fees for management and NRI quota seats, Prasanna emphasized that these private institutions have absolutely no authority to allot the seats themselves.

According to the KEA, all medical seat allotments in the state are based strictly on the candidates’ National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET) ranks. The authority confirmed that this rule applies across all courses and institutions in Karnataka to ensure a fair and transparent process.

Prasanna also outlined the distribution of seats in government medical colleges. He explained that 15 percent of the seats in government medical colleges are allotted through the National Medical Commission (NMC) at the national level. The remaining 85 percent of these government seats are processed and allotted directly through the KEA.

Additionally, all seats in private medical colleges and private universities throughout Karnataka are allotted through the KEA counseling process. Parents and students have been urged to avoid engaging with unauthorized agents and to rely solely on the official KEA channels for all seat allotments.
