Karnataka's Priya HM and Mijo Chacko Kurian Win 400m Titles in Meerut

Karnataka quarter-milers Priya H M and Mijo Chacko Kurian secured victories in the women’s and men’s 400m events respectively at the Indian Athletics Series 15 held in Meerut on Wednesday.

Priya, competing for JSW, took top honours in the women’s 400m after clocking a time of 54.21 seconds. In the men’s 400m event, Mijo Chacko Kurian, representing the Indian Air Force, claimed first place with a winning time of 46.89 seconds.

Beyond her victory in the 400m, Priya also earned a podium finish in the women’s 200m final. She finished in third place with a time of 24.78 seconds. The 200m race saw fellow Karnataka athlete Nimeksha Siddi place second in 24.67 seconds, while Harita Bhadra of Reliance took first place in 23.36 seconds.

Karnataka saw another victory on the track through hurdler Anjali C. Also representing JSW, Anjali won the women’s 100m hurdles final with a recorded time of 13.36 seconds.

The one-day meet in Meerut witnessed a depleted field across events, as many elite athletes were absent while completing their preparations for the upcoming Asian Games.

In other men’s events, Sandeep Singh of Himachal Pradesh won the 100m in 10.65 seconds, finishing just ahead of Savin Thingalaya of Reliance, who clocked 10.66 seconds. Adesh Garsa of Rajasthan won the 200m in 21.39 seconds, while Sandeep Vinodkumar of Reliance took the 110m hurdles in 14.40 seconds. Nirbhay Choudhary of Delhi threw 66.47 metres to win the hammer throw, Aaditya Raghuvanshi of Madhya Pradesh claimed the high jump with a 2.10-metre clearance, and Ramchandra Mali of Rajasthan secured the shot put title with a mark of 15.91 metres.

In the women’s section, Avantika Narale won the 100m in 12.25 seconds, while Ruhi Bohra of Delhi took the 1500m in 4:38.11. Field events saw Anushka Yadav of Uttar Pradesh win the hammer throw with 64.92 metres, Ishika Singh of Uttar Pradesh take the javelin throw with 45.03 metres, and Rakhi Sangwan win the shot put with 13.94 metres. Rimpal Kaur of Punjab won the high jump at 1.64 metres, Ankita Chaudhary of Delhi secured the long jump at 5.73 metres, and Meera Sibu of JSW claimed the triple jump with 12.65 metres.
