Karnataka Universities to Reissue Physical Mark Sheets for UG and PG Students

Karnataka Universities to Reissue Physical Mark Sheets for UG and PG Students

The Karnataka government has decided to reintroduce physical mark sheets alongside digital copies for students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses across universities and affiliated colleges in the state. The decision addresses a long-standing demand from students and parents who faced procedural hurdles due to purely electronic documentation.

The policy change was resolved during a meeting of the Karnataka State Higher Education Council. Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy chaired the meeting, which followed consultations with university vice-chancellors and department officials.

Following the decision, the Higher Education Department has been directed to submit a report within a week. The report is required to outline the financial costs involved in issuing printed certificates, as well as the necessary security features to prevent tampering and counterfeiting of the documents.

Universities in Karnataka had stopped issuing physical mark sheets in recent years to curb forgery, lower operational costs, and transition toward paperless administration. Under that system, academic records were instead issued as digital copies through DigiLocker.

However, students and parents voiced persistent difficulties because numerous employers and overseas universities continued to mandate physical documents. This forced graduates to repeatedly return to their respective universities to submit separate applications for printed mark sheets.
