Karnataka to Recruit 1,000 Permanent Faculty for 32 State Universities

BENGALURU — Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi has assured that the state government will improve infrastructure, strengthen finances, and recruit permanent faculty members to fill vacant positions across 32 state universities in Karnataka.

The assurance came during an internal meeting held on Saturday with the Vice-Chancellors of 32 state universities, including Bangalore University, Karnatak University, and Gulbarga University, to address major challenges plaguing higher education institutions in the state.

According to sources in the Higher Education Department, the Minister took serious note of the extensive faculty vacancies across campuses. He assured the Vice-Chancellors that at least 1,000 permanent faculty members will be recruited during the current academic year. A formal file regarding the recruitment process will be submitted to the Finance Department for necessary clearance.

During the meeting, university Vice-Chancellors raised several institutional concerns and appealed for additional financial backing. They requested that the government facilitate more grants from the Union government, corporate social responsibility initiatives by private firms, and international funding bodies such as the Asian Development Bank.

The Vice-Chancellors also urged the Minister to ensure the prompt release and timely disbursement of scholarships under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan and Tribal Sub-Plan funds to support the higher education of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students across state institutions.
