Karnataka to Issue Verification Notices to 43.8 Lakh Voters

Bengaluru: Around 43.80 lakh voters across Karnataka will receive notices seeking verification following the publication of the draft electoral rolls on August 24, according to Chief Electoral Officer V Anbukkumar.

Out of 4.46 crore voters included in the draft rolls, the notices account for 9.81% of all submitted forms. The list includes 23.45 lakh "no mapping" cases where voters did not map 2002 Special Summary Revision data in their enumeration forms, alongside 20.35 lakh cases with logical anomalies such as name or age mismatches.

In Bengaluru, civic divisions account for a substantial share of the notices. BBMP North recorded 6,13,003 notices (47.89% of forms), BBMP Central registered 4,29,364 notices (41.72%), and BBMP South logged 4,17,625 notices (38.43%). Bangalore Urban district recorded 9,45,998 notices (41.07%).

Once the draft rolls are published, notices generated by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will be delivered to voters by booth level officers (BLOs). The notices will be issued in two languages chosen from Kannada, English, Urdu, and Marathi, depending on the region.

Voters will be notified of the place, date, and time of their hearing, which will be held at local polling stations or gram panchayat offices. Electors can appear in person with relevant records or upload documents using a QR code printed on the notice. Acceptable identity proofs include Aadhaar and any of 11 Election Commission-approved documents.

If a voter fails to appear after a second notice, their name will be marked for deletion via a speaking order under Form 7. Appeals can be filed before the District Election Officer within 15 days and before the CEO within 30 days. Eligible citizens may also reapply as new voters using Form 6 during the claims and objections window between August 24 and September 23.

To handle the volume during the 56-day window ending October 22, the commission will appoint additional Assistant EROs to support 200 existing EROs. The final electoral rolls will be published on October 27.
