Karnataka Sets Up 16-Member Panel Under U T Khader to Finalise State Waqf Rules

Karnataka Sets Up 16-Member Panel Under U T Khader to Finalise State Waqf Rules

The Karnataka state government has constituted a 16-member committee in Bengaluru to vet and finalise the Karnataka State Waqf Rules under the Union government's Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development (UMEED) Act.

The committee will function under the leadership of Health, Minority Welfare, Haj & Waqf Minister U T Khader. The panel has been tasked with overseeing the state-level regulatory framework.

A set of draft rules has already been formulated for the state. The Khader-led committee will now examine and vet these draft provisions before they are formally finalised.

The central UMEED Act of 2025 empowers individual states to frame their own specific rules for implementation. The 2025 legislation had previously faced opposition from the Congress.
