Karnataka Seeks Public Input for Bengaluru Metropolitan Region Vision Plan

The Karnataka government is seeking public feedback to prepare a comprehensive vision document and growth plan for the Bengaluru Metropolitan Region, covering Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, and Ramanagara districts.

The public consultation, supported by Civis, is currently in its final phase and will remain open until August 31. The government aims to collect between 1.5 lakh and 2 lakh responses from residents across the three districts to ensure the vision plan addresses ground-level priorities and challenges.

The vision document focuses on several growth drivers, including new-age services, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, education, tourism, planned urbanisation, housing, liveability, agriculture and allied sectors, and core infrastructure. A state government official noted that the survey is designed to understand ground-level issues across living, working, and recreational environments.

According to officials, submitted responses will be analysed based on location, age, gender, and occupation to identify critical issues, create area-specific solutions, and examine demographic-specific concerns alongside potential policy levers. The feedback will guide priority projects planned for the next two to five years, addressing areas such as employment, public services, women’s safety, transport, housing, digital infrastructure, and governance accountability.

An implementation war room operating under the Chief Minister will monitor targets, track inter-departmental progress, and resolve project bottlenecks as development expands into areas surrounding the city core.

Urban strategist Vinod Jacob noted that while citizen engagement in planning is welcome, development visions must also look beyond the capital city to direct investment, jobs, and infrastructure to other regions, especially as Bengaluru manages pressure on roads, traffic, water, power, healthcare, and climate resilience.

Raghavendra Poojari H, Programme Lead at B.PAC, also supported the consultation, stating that local residents are best positioned to identify neighborhood challenges and shape solutions. Citizens can submit input through the Civis platform or via a WhatsApp chatbot using the keyword "bmrconsultation" before the August 31 deadline.
