Karnataka Plans India's First Quantum City at Hesaraghatta in North-West Bengaluru

India's proposed first Quantum City is slated to come up at Hesaraghatta in North-West Bengaluru, establishing a dedicated research and technology hub under the Karnataka Quantum Mission. The project is set to accelerate demand for housing, commercial spaces, and supporting civic infrastructure across the north-western corridor.

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar recently announced that the state government is developing the Hesaraghatta project as a specialized ecosystem bringing together quantum research laboratories, technology startups, and advanced enterprises. He stated that Karnataka is actively seeking deeper partnerships with US universities, research institutions, incubators, and technology hubs to strengthen quantum research, workforce skilling, and innovation.

Bengaluru currently hosts more than 1,000 US companies, over 10,000 startups, and a technology workforce numbering more than one million professionals. The establishment of the Quantum City is planned to draw high-value jobs, research facilities, skilled professionals, and allied businesses directly to the city's north-western corridor, strengthening the region's overall investment and real estate appeal.

The development is anticipated to unlock fresh opportunities across several sectors in Hesaraghatta and adjoining areas over the coming years. As the technology ecosystem expands, the region is projected to see heightened demand for residential properties, commercial offices, co-working spaces, hospitality, retail establishments, and social infrastructure.

By setting up the specialised technology cluster, the state aims to diversify Bengaluru's economic growth beyond its traditionally established IT corridors. The project is designed to support connectivity-led development and generate new demand for housing and commercial projects, accelerating Hesaraghatta's transformation into an innovation- and knowledge-driven growth corridor.
