Karnataka Mandates PU College Lecturers to Teach Classes 9 and 10

The Karnataka State Government has issued an official notification making it mandatory for Pre-University (PU) college lecturers to teach high school students in Classes 9 and 10. The state's School Education & Literacy Department announced the policy decision on July 15, 2026, following the formal issuance of the notification on July 14, 2026.

This new mandate was enacted by amending the state's previous 2013 recruitment rules. The updated regulations have been officially brought into effect under the title 'Karnataka General Services (Pre-University Education) (Recruitment) (Amendment) Rules, 2026'.

Under the newly amended rules, PU college lecturers across Karnataka are now legally required to take on teaching duties for high school sections, specifically targeting ninth and tenth-grade classes. The School Education & Literacy Department Karnataka confirmed the implementation of the amended rules, which formally restructures the teaching responsibilities for pre-university educators in the state.
