Karnataka Government Withdraws 2018 RGUHS Amendment Bill in Assembly

The Karnataka State government on Monday withdrew the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2018, in the Legislative Assembly in Bengaluru.
Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil stated that the decision to withdraw the 2018 legislation was taken because the government is currently in the process of formulating a new and comprehensive Bill related to RGUHS.
The 2018 Amendment Bill had originally sought to amend a key clause in the existing legislation to enable the appointment of doctors as Registrars of the university. Under the prevailing rules, the position was designated for IAS officers and super-time-scale KAS officers.
After its initial legislative processing, the Governor had returned the Bill to the State government while seeking further clarifications on its provisions. Following the withdrawal in the Assembly, the administration is now preparing a broader legislative framework for the health sciences university.
