Karnataka Extends Gruha Jyothi Door-to-Door Survey Deadline to September 30

The Karnataka State government has extended the deadline for the door-to-door verification survey of Gruha Jyothi scheme beneficiaries by one month, setting a new completion date of September 30. The verification drive across Bengaluru and surrounding districts initially had a deadline of August 31.

The review survey for the electricity scheme began on July 1, 2026. Across the eight districts falling under the jurisdiction of the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. (BESCOM), there were 68.86 lakh registered Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries as of May 2026. By August 31, field personnel had surveyed approximately 46.7 lakh beneficiaries, accounting for nearly 70% of the total pool.

BESCOM Managing Director N. Shivashankara has urged the remaining beneficiaries to cooperate with meter readers and present the required documents when staff visit their households starting September 1. According to BESCOM officials, several beneficiaries residing in apartment complexes across Bengaluru had not been cooperating with visiting personnel, prompting authorities to request apartment residents to grant smooth access for the survey.

Specific operational protocols have been established to handle locked or vacant premises. For locked houses, meter readers have been instructed to make up to three visits at different time slots. During each visit, staff must record the exact latitude and longitude of the premises and mark the property status as "DL" (door lock) on their mobile application.

Once a property is logged as locked in the system, an automated SMS containing the meter reader’s name and contact number will be dispatched to the beneficiary’s registered mobile phone number. This notification will be sent up to three times, enabling residents to contact the assigned meter reader directly to schedule and complete their verification.

In instances where premises are unoccupied, the property can only be marked as "VACANT" in the mobile application after staff physically visit the site and capture its geographic coordinates. BESCOM has also released dedicated helpline numbers—9480816111, 9480816112, 9480816113, and 9480816114—for beneficiaries seeking assistance or clarity regarding the ongoing survey.
