Kaniminike Residents Face Peril as Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway FOB Remains Incomplete

Residents of Kaniminike village along the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway are risking their lives daily to reach their homes due to the lack of direct service road connectivity and an incomplete foot overbridge near Christ College.

The foot overbridge, situated at Km 23+620 near Christ College, is planned to provide a safe pedestrian crossing between the college and Kaniminike village. In its absence, pedestrians and college students are forced to cross the high-speed expressway, where motorists travel at high speeds, or make a 4.5-kilometre to 6-kilometre detour.

The connectivity issues also impact residents of the BDA Kaniminike apartments, a complex comprising around 1,500 homes that lacks a direct approach road. Local residents noted that the area has suffered pedestrian deaths and multiple crashes. The hazard is heightened at night due to the absence of streetlights and footpaths along the stretch.

According to the construction agency, the structure was completed up to the substructure stage before superstructure work stalled due to raw-material shortages and supply-chain disruptions. Although materials were subsequently delivered and fabrication began, the bridge remained unfinished past earlier target timelines.

Responding to queries, the National Highways Authority of India stated that the project encountered delays due to land-related issues and objections from adjoining landowners. NHAI confirmed that the disputes have been resolved, with work scheduled to restart within a week and completion expected by August 2026, subject to site conditions and safety requirements.
