Jakkur Railway Over Bridge in Bengaluru Set to Open Within a Month

The long-delayed Jakkur railway over bridge (ROB) in northern Bengaluru is entering its final stages of construction and is slated to open to the public within a month. The bridge, which first began construction in 2012, will significantly reduce travel time and distance for commuters moving between Jakkur and Yelahanka.

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced on X that the ROB is in its final phase of work. He noted that the completed infrastructure will considerably cut down commuting time for local motorists who have struggled with connectivity issues for over a decade.

The project experienced years of delay after coming to a halt due to land acquisition complications. Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) engineers are currently working to finish the remaining pending works on the structure.

According to GBA engineer Nagappa, the bridge will be ready for traffic in about a month once necessary technical clearances are secured. He stated that the department still needs to arrange a third-party inspection of the ROB and conduct a mandatory load test prior to opening the bridge to vehicular movement.

Local residents, while eager for the link to become operational, have maintained a cautious view after years of missed timelines. Commuters currently face indirect routes to reach nearby areas. Local resident Nagaraj pointed out that motorists currently have to travel more than five kilometres to reach Yelahanka, but the new overbridge will reduce that distance by three kilometres once inaugurated.

Residents noted that the lack of the railway crossing had left Jakkur isolated from surrounding neighbourhoods for years. The opening of the ROB is expected to provide direct and hassle-free connectivity to Yelahanka and ease daily transit across the railway line.
