Jagrutha Karnataka Demands Six-Month Extension for Electoral Roll Revision

Around 74 lakh voters across Karnataka are facing difficulties under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, socio-political organisation Jagrutha Karnataka stated in Bengaluru on Sunday, August 23. The organisation urged the Election Commission to extend the exercise by six months to ensure that no eligible voter loses their right to vote.

According to Jagrutha Karnataka, the findings were based on its internal survey and publicly available data. The organisation highlighted that the affected group includes roughly 15 lakh eligible voters categorised under the Absent, Shifted, Duplicate, Dead and Others list who risk being excluded from the electoral rolls.

While over one crore voters in the state have been marked under the ASDDO category, the organisation claimed that approximately 15 lakh of them are genuine, eligible voters who face potential disenfranchisement.

In addition to the ASDDO category, around 44 lakh voters are currently facing notices regarding unmapping status and logical discrepancies. The overall figure also includes lakhs of remaining new voters who must now seek inclusion through Form 6 applications.

To assist the public during the ongoing revision process, Jagrutha Karnataka announced that it has developed software allowing voters to check whether their names are listed in the ASDDO records. The organisation also stated that it would launch an additional digital tool by August 27 to help citizens verify if their names appear in the draft electoral list.
