IT Officials and Police Seize Rs 9 Crore Cash Near Electronic City Toll Plaza

Income Tax officials and Electronic City police seized Rs 9 crore in suspected unaccounted cash from an SUV near the BETL toll plaza on Hosur Road late Tuesday night. The vehicle was allegedly travelling from Bengaluru towards Hosur in Tamil Nadu when it was intercepted.

The operation took place at around 10:30 pm on August 18 after local law enforcement received specific intelligence regarding the movement of cash. Acting on a tip-off provided by Jagadish, Deputy Director of Income Tax, Unit-22, Bengaluru, the night beat staff of Electronic City Police Station tracked and intercepted the Hyundai Creta at a traffic signal shortly after it passed the toll plaza.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, officials discovered cash amounting to approximately Rs 9 crore inside. Both occupants of the SUV, along with the vehicle and the seized currency, were detained and handed over to Income Tax authorities for formal proceedings and detailed questioning.

Police identified one of the detained individuals as 42-year-old Sachin, who is associated with Sindhu Jewellers located in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The identity of the second occupant travelling in the vehicle was not immediately confirmed by officials.

Following the interception on Hosur Road, Income Tax authorities conducted follow-up searches at premises linked to the individuals in Tamil Nadu. According to sources, those related searches led to the additional recovery of Rs 1.3 crore in cash.

Income Tax officials have taken both individuals into custody as part of the ongoing probe. Further investigation is currently underway to determine the original source of the funds and their intended destination.
