The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red alerts for multiple districts across Karnataka on Monday, June 8, 2026, warning of extremely heavy rainfall as the southwest monsoon intensifies. The meteorological department, reporting from Bengaluru, announced that these alerts will remain in effect for 24 hours starting from 8:30 am on their respective days.

For Monday, the weather department placed the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi under a red alert. The alert warns residents of these coastal regions to prepare for extremely heavy rainfall as the monsoon season gains strength.

The weather warnings are set to expand on Tuesday, with the IMD sounding a red alert for five districts. The districts under the Tuesday alert are Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga.

For Wednesday, the meteorological department has extended the red alert to cover seven districts. The districts expected to be impacted on Wednesday are Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Belagavi, Dharwad, and Haveri.

According to the IMD, a red alert signifies the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 20 cm within a 24-hour period. Each of the issued alerts will remain in effect for 24 hours starting from 8:30 am on the respective days.

Due to the expectation that heavy rain activity will intensify over the coming days, authorities have advised residents in all the affected districts to remain cautious.
