I-T Officials Seize ₹9 Crore Unaccounted Cash Near Electronics City

Income Tax officials have seized ₹9 crore in unaccounted cash from an SUV near Electronics City in Bengaluru, after the vehicle was intercepted while allegedly heading towards Hosur in Tamil Nadu, police said.
The interception took place on the night of August 18 around 10.30 p.m. Acting on a specific request from the Income Tax Department, Bengaluru City Police stopped the vehicle, registered under the number KL 20 T 8629, near the Bengaluru Elevated Tollway Limited (BETL) toll plaza on Hosur Road.
Night beat personnel escorted the SUV and its occupants to the Electronics City police station. The vehicle and the individuals inside were subsequently handed over to Income Tax authorities for further inspection.
During a detailed search of the vehicle, the Income Tax team discovered ₹9 crore in cash. The occupants inside the car were unable to produce any valid documents, accounts, or records to explain the source or possession of the money.
Following the discovery, the Income Tax Department detained one of the occupants of the car, identified as 42-year-old Sachin, associated with Sindhu Jewellers located in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
The operation was subsequently expanded beyond Karnataka. Following the initial seizure on Hosur Road, Income Tax officials conducted searches at the residences of certain individuals in Tamil Nadu, leading to the recovery of an additional ₹1.3 crore in unaccounted cash.
According to the police, the Income Tax Department is currently conducting further inquiries to determine the origin, ownership, and intended destination of the seized funds.
