GBA to Resume Welfare Scheme and Distribute Benefits to 15,592 Beneficiaries

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is set to resume its welfare scheme after a three-year hiatus, distributing benefits to 15,592 individuals across Bengaluru as a Gowri Ganesh festival gift. According to a GBA official, the exact date for the distribution of the benefits will be announced later.

The comprehensive welfare initiative includes a wide range of support targeted at students, working women, pourakarmikas, and specially-abled individuals. An official from the GBA Welfare Department detailed that fee reimbursements will be provided to 4,200 students, while 2,298 beneficiaries are slated to receive cash assistance under the ‘Onti Mane’ scheme. Additionally, 3,917 people will receive sewing machines to aid their livelihoods.

To promote sustainable mobility and self-employment, the authority will distribute 1,507 EV and CNG vending push carts, alongside 732 auto-rickshaws under the Saarathi scheme. Furthermore, 730 electric two-wheelers will be handed over to beneficiaries, including pourakarmikas and working women from economically disadvantaged sections of society.

The welfare package also caters to specially-abled residents, providing 592 modified two-wheelers featuring attachments and 71 electric wheelchairs. Employment generation forms another key pillar of the scheme, with 675 individuals selected to receive free skill training aimed at improving job prospects.

Housing and civic benefits are also incorporated into the rollout. Documents will be handed over to 426 beneficiaries under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation Limited, while 444 people will be covered under the Amrut Mahotsav Yojana.

To ensure that the financial aid and physical assets reach the intended recipients without misuse, civic officials warned that strict monitoring will be conducted. A Welfare Department official emphasized that verification processes will be put in place to check whether items such as auto-rickshaws, push carts, and two-wheelers are illegally sold for money.

The official added that beneficiaries allocated housing must reside in the corporation quarters rather than sub-letting or renting them out. The civic body warned that strict legal or administrative action will be taken against any violators found breaching these conditions.
