GBA to Launch GIS Dashboard to Coordinate Bengaluru Infrastructure Works

On Friday, Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced the development of a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based integrated digital dashboard for the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) area to coordinate civic infrastructure projects and prevent uncoordinated road digging. The initiative is designed to improve synergy among various civic agencies and minimize repeated disruptions, road digging, and prolonged project delays across Bengaluru.

During a GBA Executive Committee meeting, Minister Byre Gowda directed all local civic agencies to upload details of their proposed works and action plans onto the digital platform before execution. The dashboard will integrate comprehensive information, including data on roads, road history, underground utilities, streetlights, and ongoing infrastructure works undertaken by different departments.

The Minister highlighted a persistent issue in the city, noting that newly laid roads are frequently dug up within months because agencies operate without adequate information sharing. The integrated GIS platform is expected to address this issue by enabling advance planning and coordination among departments before any physical work begins.

To ensure smoother execution, Mr. Byre Gowda directed all participating agencies to jointly plan infrastructure works and synchronise their project timelines. This synchronization is intended to ensure that utility works, road construction, and other civic projects are carried out together, thereby reducing repeated excavation and minimizing disruption to public life.

In a move toward transparency, the Minister emphasized that the GIS platform will be made accessible to the public. This will allow residents to track ongoing projects and view the action plans of infrastructure works being undertaken across Bengaluru.

The announcement came during a GBA Executive Committee meeting on Friday, which brought together the chiefs of all parastatal agencies on a single platform for the first time. Minister Byre Gowda acknowledged that although the executive committee existed previously, it had remained largely on paper, and frequent meetings were not held.

While the law mandates that GBA Executive Committee meetings occur once every two months, the Minister stated that meetings would now be convened more frequently whenever necessary to ensure continuous monitoring and faster decision-making.
