GBA Seeks Verification of Reported H1N1 Cases at Clarence High School on Pottery Road

The Greater Bengaluru Authority has sought clarification and official verification of reported H1N1 cases at Clarence High School on Pottery Road, following widespread influenza-like symptoms among students and staff.
Health officials visited the campus on August 17 after reports emerged of fever, cold, cough, and related symptoms across the school community. The visit followed a report submitted by the Medical Officer of the New Bagalur Layout Primary Health Centre.
School authorities informed officials that two teachers had tested positive for H1N1 earlier in the month. In response, the school initially shut down on August 12 for cleaning and sanitisation. However, when classes resumed on August 13, around 500 students and 21 teaching and non-teaching staff members were absent.
Due to continued high absenteeism and ongoing symptoms among attendees, offline classes were subsequently suspended as a precautionary measure.
The health department stated that the reported H1N1 infections are yet to be formally verified through laboratory records and the public surveillance system. In the interim, health authorities directed the school management to maintain a line list of all symptomatic students and staff, advising anyone displaying symptoms to seek medical attention and remain at home.
Officials are scheduled to conduct inspections of the school's sanitation facilities, ventilation systems, drinking water supply, toilets, and waste management infrastructure.
In addition, food safety officials plan to inspect vendors operating near the school premises. The official health report clarified that there is currently no epidemiological evidence connecting local street vendors to the reported infections.
