GBA Chief Orders Fast-Tracking of 5.45 km Lower Agaram-Sarjapur Buffer Road

Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao on Tuesday instructed officials to fast-track the ongoing construction of the 5.45-kilometre buffer road connecting Lower Agaram Junction to Sarjapur Road via Ejipura and ensure its completion at the earliest.

Issuing the directives during a review of progress on development works in the Bengaluru South City Corporation, Mr. Rao emphasized the need to speed up work across the entire stretch. The buffer road project consists of a 2.45 km section extending from Lower Agaram Road to Ejipura Road, alongside a 3 km section connecting Ejipura Road to Sarjapur Road.

According to GBA officials, the Defence Department has handed over 5.34 acres of land near Ejipura to facilitate the road's construction. Approximately 90 percent of the retaining wall construction has already been completed, while work on the accompanying drainage systems and footpaths is currently underway.

To address environmental and rainwater management concerns, Mr. Rao asked officials to adopt a road design that allows rainwater to percolate into the ground wherever feasible. Pointing out that S.T. Bed Colony, which adjoins the buffer road, is situated in a low-lying area, he directed engineering teams to construct appropriate stormwater drains within the designated road limits to prevent flooding.

In addition to the buffer road, the Chief Commissioner reviewed the ongoing work on the Ejipura flyover. He instructed officials to deploy additional manpower to expedite the flyover project.

Observing that the existing footpath along the service road beneath the flyover is narrow, Mr. Rao directed officials to widen the pedestrian path once the main flyover construction is completed. He also called for the addition of a dedicated cycle track, specifying that its design must effectively prevent two-wheelers from entering the lane. Furthermore, officials were tasked with preparing an estimate to install adequate lighting underneath the flyover structure.
