GBA Begins Imposing Penalties on Uncleared Vacant Plots in Shanthinagar

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda initiated a drive on August 27 to penalise property owners who failed to clean their vacant plots in Shanthinagar, following the expiry of the deadline set under the city's ‘Freedom from Waste’ campaign.

As part of the enforcement drive, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will directly undertake the cleaning of private vacant plots that remain uncleared. The total cost incurred by the civic authorities for the cleanup work will be recovered directly from the property owners through their property tax.

The drive follows the launch of the ‘Freedom from Waste’ campaign by the Minister earlier this month, which directed plot owners across the city to clear waste and maintain their properties.

Property owners who failed to comply with the cleanup deadline face penalties ranging from ₹25,900 to ₹1.75 lakh. The specific fine amount is determined based on the size of the vacant plot.

The enforcement and cleaning drive was initiated in Shanthinagar, with the GBA ensuring that non-compliant landowners bear both the penalty and the full cost of the civic body's clearing operations.
