GBA and Police Launch Safe Footpath Campaign to Clear Koramangala Encroachments

On July 1, 2026, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and the Bengaluru Traffic Police launched a city-wide ‘Safe Footpath’ campaign to clear encroached footpaths, targeting a key stretch in Koramangala among other locations. The drive, which began at 10:00 a.m., aims to restore pedestrian access and improve public safety along key arterial and sub-arterial roads.

In Koramangala, the campaign focused on clearing a 400-metre stretch on 4th Cross on Jyothi Nivas College Road. The drive in this sector is part of a broader effort across the BTM Layout constituency, which also includes clearing an 800-metre stretch on 14th Main Road from HSR Signal to Jakkasandra Junction, and an 800-metre stretch on 7th Main Road in BTM 2nd Stage from 7th Cross to 29th Main Road.

The civic-wide exercise is scheduled to continue until July 10. GBA officials and traffic police began clearing the footpaths after identifying several encroached stretches over the past few weeks. The drive covered multiple constituencies across Bengaluru from the morning hours until 12:00 p.m. and continued into the afternoon.

In addition to Koramangala and BTM Layout, the campaign hit several other neighbourhoods. In Malleswaram, officials cleared a 1.5-kilometre stretch of Sampige Road from 5th Cross to 18th Cross. In Rajajinagar 2nd Block, the drive covered a 1.05-kilometre stretch on 12th Main Road, extending from Bhashyam Circle to the RTO Complex.

Further south, the drive in Basavanagudi covered Police Station Road (450 metres), DVG Road in N.R. Colony (600 metres), and Katriguppe Main Road (1 kilometre). In the Yediyur division, operations were taken up on a 700-metre stretch of 24th Cross (SLV Road) from 9th Main to 21st Main, as well as a 600-metre stretch on 80 Feet Road in Bhuvaneshwari Nagar.

In the Bengaluru South zone, the civic body identified and targeted Dr. Vishnuvardhan Road from Shanimahatma temple to Uttarahalli Circle (1.3 kilometres), 80 Feet Road near R.V. Institute of Technology and Management (1.5 kilometres), Kothnur Village Road to Byrappa Circle (1.5 kilometres), and Vishwapriya Layout Main Road from Begur Main Road to 24th Cross (900 metres).

Other cleared areas included a 1-kilometre stretch on the Outer Ring Road in Padmanabhanagar, and segments in Jayanagar and J.P. Nagar.
