FSSAI Intercepts 30 Vehicles at Border to Stop Cheap Milk Supply to Bengaluru

Officials from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) intercepted approximately 30 vehicles at the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border in the early hours of Saturday. The coordinated operation was launched as part of a major crackdown on the suspected supply of cheap and potentially adulterated milk into Bengaluru.

According to food safety authorities, thousands of litres of low-cost milk quietly enter the city from neighbouring states every single day. This steady inflow of cheap milk eventually finds its way into daily consumer items, including cups of tea and coffee, bakery products, sweets, and various restaurant kitchens across Bengaluru.

The ongoing distribution has triggered significant concern among food safety regulators due to the potential health risks associated with substandard milk. The intercepted milk is sold at prices that are significantly lower than the rates offered by the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF). This stark price difference prompted the FSSAI to investigate and initiate the crackdown to ensure the quality and safety of the milk consumed by the public.

During the operation, a team of FSSAI officials from Bengaluru positioned themselves at the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border to monitor incoming transport. In the wee hours of Saturday, the team successfully stopped and inspected around 30 vehicles suspected of carrying the low-cost supply.

The crackdown is aimed at disrupting these cheap and potentially substandard milk distribution channels. Authorities are focusing on safeguarding the health of consumers who rely on these milk supplies for their daily beverages and food products.
