FSDA Shuts Down Chairman's Club Kitchen in Sahakaranagar After Food Safety Violations

Officials from the Food Safety Wing of the Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) have shut down the kitchen of Chairman’s Club at Sahakaranagar in Bengaluru's Dollars Colony. The closure followed an inspection on the night of September 3, which uncovered multiple violations of food safety standards and hygiene regulations.
According to FSDA officials, the enforcement drive at the club was carried out based on direct instructions from Health and Family Welfare Department Minister U. T. Khader. During the search, authorities discovered major lapses in food storage and handling.
Inspectors found 40 kg of expired chilli stored on the premises, along with 5 kg of bread crumbs bearing improper labelling that violated Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations. Officials also reported finding and seizing unauthorised and prohibited artificial colours used or stored for food preparation.
The inspection revealed highly unhygienic conditions across the club's food preparation and storage areas. Officials noted that the establishment failed to implement basic food safety measures, including storing vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items together.
The department confirmed that these practices violated the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, as well as the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Rules, 2011.
Following the inspection, food safety authorities seized all expired products from the facility, ordered the immediate closure of the kitchen, and initiated legal action against the management of Chairman’s Club.
