FSDA Seizes Sauces and Drinks in Raids on Hotel Food Suppliers in Bengaluru

Food safety officials in Bengaluru seized nearly 70 kg of sauces and 10 litres of beverages nearing their expiry dates during crackdowns on two major food storage facilities on Saturday, August 8. The targeted facilities supply meat, fish, and other ingredients to five-star hotels and caterers across the city.

The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) carried out the operation using 30 teams of Designated Officers and Food Safety Officers. Officials inspected storage and distribution facilities operated by Coldman Logistics Private Limited and Radhakrishna Foodland Limited, checking food quality alongside storage protocols and safety measures.

During the raids, teams seized strawberry-flavoured drinks and other beverages close to expiration, in addition to nearly 70 kg of soy sauce and other sauces. FSDA officers also collected 18 food samples — comprising five meat samples and 13 other items — and sent them for laboratory analysis.

The Saturday drive followed an extensive inspection on Friday, August 7, which targeted 26 three-star and five-star hotels in Bengaluru. Friday's raids uncovered large quantities of stale meat and vegetables, unhygienic handling and storage conditions, fungal growth on vegetables, and a failure to maintain mandatory separate storage areas for vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items.

The FSDA stated that appropriate legal action will be initiated against non-compliant food business operators under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Rules, 2011.
