Former MLC Dayananda Reddy abducted in Heelalige for Rs 2 crore ransom

A 63-year-old former Member of Legislative Council (MLC), Dayananda Reddy, was allegedly abducted at gunpoint by four armed men in Heelalige, Bengaluru, who demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore to spare his life. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday while Reddy, a resident of Bommasandra in Anekal, was returning home from the Gold Coin Club.
According to the criminal complaint filed with the Attibele police, Reddy was traveling along Huskur Road in his Toyota Velfire when the encounter began. Two men riding a motorcycle blocked his luxury vehicle near a local temple in Heelalige.
The riders claimed that a "madam" had sent a gift box for the former MLC. When Reddy’s driver stepped out of the Toyota Velfire to collect the package, the two men quickly boarded the vehicle and threatened Reddy at gunpoint.
After driving the vehicle a short distance, the abductors stopped near a red sedan bearing a Kerala registration number. Two additional men emerged from the sedan and joined the first two. The group ordered Reddy’s driver to leave the spot.
The four armed men then drove Reddy to a secluded area in KHB Colony. Once there, they allegedly informed the former MLC that they were professional contract killers who had been paid Rs 10 crore to execute him.
Reddy told the police that he pleaded for his life and offered to pay them if they spared him. The abductors agreed to the proposition and demanded a sum of Rs 2 crore in cash, which they instructed him to arrange by Tuesday afternoon.
Before releasing him, one of the abductors identified himself to Reddy as Praveen and provided a mobile contact number. Reddy was eventually set free by his captors at around 4:30 a.m.
Following his release, Reddy approached the Attibele police department to file a formal complaint. The police are currently investigating the case, and no arrests have been made in connection with the abduction so far.
