Former Bengaluru MLC Dayananda Reddy Abducted at Gunpoint for Rs 2 Crore Ransom

A 63-year-old former Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), Dayananda Reddy, was allegedly abducted at gunpoint by four armed men who demanded a Rs 2 crore ransom near Heelalige in Bengaluru. The incident occurred at around 12:30 AM on Tuesday as Reddy, a resident of Bommasandra in Anekal, was returning home from the Gold Coin Club on Huskur Road.
According to the criminal complaint filed with the Attibele police, Reddy was travelling in his Toyota Velfire when two men on a motorcycle blocked his vehicle near a local temple. The men claimed that a 'madam' had sent a gift box.
When Reddy’s driver stepped out of the vehicle to collect the purported gift, the two motorcyclists allegedly boarded the car and threatened the former MLC at gunpoint.
The abductors drove the vehicle a short distance before stopping near a red sedan bearing a Kerala registration number. Two additional men emerged from that car, ordered Reddy’s driver to leave, and took the former MLC to a secluded spot in KHB Colony.
At the secluded location, the four men allegedly told Reddy that they were contract killers who had accepted a Rs 10 crore contract to murder him. Reddy pleaded for his life and offered them money instead.
The men agreed to spare him and demanded Rs 2 crore in cash, which they said had to be delivered by Tuesday afternoon. Before releasing the victim, one of the abductors identified himself as Praveen and shared a mobile phone number with him.
Reddy was released by the abductors at around 4:30 AM. He subsequently approached the local authorities to report the crime. The Attibele police have registered a case, but no arrests have been made so far.
