Food Safety Officials Seal Gottigere Warehouse, Issue Notices To 3 Indira Canteens

Food safety officials issued notices to three Indira Canteen central kitchens located in Gottigere, Lingarajapuram, and Singasandra on Tuesday after uncovering multiple food safety violations during a special inspection drive. The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department conducted the inspections across these Bengaluru locations to check food quality, safety, storage, labelling, and handling practices.
The inspections revealed that food handling and storage at the facilities failed to comply with requirements set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Among the violations identified by the inspecting team were improper labelling, misbranding, and unhygienic food handling conditions.
Following the inspection, officials immediately sealed the warehouse of the Indira Canteen central kitchen at Gottigere after discovering unhygienic conditions in how food was stored and handled at the site.
The department issued formal notices to the food business operators running the central kitchens in Gottigere, Lingarajapuram, and Singasandra. In addition to the notices, officials recommended filing legal cases against the operators before their respective Adjudicating Officers for further action under food safety laws.
During the course of the inspection drive, officials also collected multiple samples of raw ingredients and prepared food items from the central kitchens. The seized samples included essential commodities such as pulses, turmeric powder, cooking oil, jaggery, salt, and sugar, as well as prepared food items ready for distribution.
These food samples have been sent to a designated laboratory to test their quality and verify compliance with prescribed food safety standards. The department confirmed that legal action will be taken against any food businesses found to be in violation of regulations once official reviews are completed.
Officials noted that similar special inspection drives will continue across the city's network to ensure that citizens are served safe, hygienic, and quality food at Indira Canteens.
