Food Safety Officials Issue Notice to Zomato Hyperpure Unit in Sakalawara

Food safety officials issued a notice to the Zomato Hyperpure facility at Sakalawara in Bengaluru on Tuesday after finding multiple licensing, labelling, and storage lapses during an inspection.

The action by the Food Safety and Drug Administration came as part of an ongoing enforcement drive across the region, which recently saw authorities seal a Zepto warehouse. Inspecting officers reported that while general cleanliness at the Sakalawara facility was found to be appropriate, significant regulatory lapses were discovered regarding products stored for supply to several local hotels.

During the drive, officials uncovered 40 kg of garlic sourced from a manufacturer whose FSSAI licence was no longer active, as well as 146 kg of chicken obtained from a supplier whose licence number could not be produced. Inspecting teams also identified alleged mislabelling on 300 kg of rice, 20 kg of dry fruits, and 15 kg of masala. In addition, 10 kg of imported radish pickle was found stored in violation of prescribed guidelines.

In total, the department collected 40 food samples from the warehouse, comprising five legal samples and 35 survey samples for testing. Authorities subsequently served a formal notice to Zomato Hyperpure, stating that legal action would be initiated against the establishment under applicable statutory provisions.
