Final Metro Trainset Arrives at Hebbagodi Depot for Yellow Line

The final six-coach metro trainset supplied by Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. for Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line arrived at the Hebbagodi depot on Monday. The arrival comes nearly a year after the inauguration of the corridor and completes the full trainset order for the 19.75-km metro line.

Manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. at its facility near Kolkata, the train was unloaded upon reaching the Hebbagodi depot. According to officials from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, technical crews began preparing the coaches by installing couplers and gangways.

The trainset will now be shifted to the Inspection Bay Line for detailed inspections and static testing. Following the completion of the assembly process, the train will commence mandatory 750-km dynamic testing on the main line. Metro officials emphasized that passing these tests is essential before the trainset can be certified and inducted into commercial passenger service.

The delivery of this 15th trainset is expected to significantly improve daily service frequency. At present, 10 trains are operational on the Yellow Line, maintaining peak-hour train frequencies of around seven minutes and non-peak frequencies of 10 minutes.

Once all 15 trainsets are commissioned, BMRCL expects to lower peak-hour waiting times to four or five minutes. Under the deployment plan, 13 trainsets will be assigned to regular passenger services, while two trainsets will be maintained as reserve stock to ensure uninterrupted service during maintenance, emergencies, and technical issues.

BMRCL officials stated that the goal is to make the entire fleet operational by the end of August, subject to successful testing and certification. With the Yellow Line order complete, Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. will shift focus to producing 18 additional trainsets for the Purple and Green Lines under a separate contract.
