EC to Hold Special Campaign for Electoral Roll Verification Across Karnataka

The Election Commission will conduct a special campaign across Karnataka on August 29 and 30, as well as September 19 and 20, to help voters verify their names in the draft electoral rolls and submit claims and objections following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

Booth-level officers (BLOs) will be present at polling stations on these scheduled days to assist electors. According to an official release, the BLOs will maintain adequate copies of forms 6, 6A, 7, and 8, assist voters in locating their details on the draft rolls, and receive any claims and objections.

The BLOs have been directed to digitise the submitted forms through the BLO application and provide daily details of all forms received by 5:30 p.m. Authorities have also been directed to carry out extensive Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities to generate public awareness about the campaign.

As of August 28, Karnataka has a total of 4,46,35,948 electors registered in the electoral rolls. This includes 2,21,59,229 men, 2,24,73,848 women, and 2,871 transgender electors.

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer stated that as many as 43,81,006 notices would be generated during the notice phase, which commences on Friday, with detailed figures to follow.

A total of 4,262 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and Additional AEROs have been deployed for the notice phase. The State has also issued a Gazette notification appointing additional AEROs to assist Electoral Registration Officers in their respective Assembly constituencies under Section 13(C)(1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
