Drunk Driver, Friend Held for Ruckus at Thalaghattapura Traffic Police Station

Two men were arrested after creating a ruckus and threatening officers at the Thalaghattapura traffic police station in Bengaluru early Thursday morning, following the impounding of a vehicle for drunk driving on Kanakapura Road.

The accused have been identified as M Lokesha, a 38-year-old resident of Chandra Layout 2nd Phase, and his 35-year-old friend RV Tejas. Both men work as contractors.

The incident began when Thalaghattapura traffic police personnel were conducting drunk driving checks near the Bunny Bakers point on Kanakapura Main Road, near Raghuvanahalli. Officers stopped Lokesha and administered a breathalyzer test, which showed an alcohol reading of 46.

Following the test, traffic police impounded Lokesha's car and informed him that he needed to pay a fine through the court to secure its release. Lokesha allegedly began shouting and verbally abusing the officers on the spot, demanding his car back and insisting that he would pay a spot fine.

According to police, Lokesha then phoned Tejas and asked him to bring a gun to shoot the policemen. When officers explained the standard legal procedure for impounded vehicles, the two men continued to abuse the personnel on duty.

At around 1:24 am, both Lokesha and Tejas went to the Thalaghattapura traffic police station. Inside the station, they created a ruckus by banging on the table and throwing items, including the police telephone directory and other articles kept on the desk.

Following the disturbance, the traffic inspector lodged a formal complaint against both individuals at the local law and order police station. The duo was subsequently arrested and produced before a court, which later granted them bail.

Police have registered a case against them under Section 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to assault or the use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging their lawful duty, along with other relevant provisions of the law.
