DK Shivakumar Directs Congress MLAs to Form Bharat Jodo Yuva Sanghas

Ruling Congress legislators have been instructed to prioritise the formation of Bharat Jodo Yuva Sanghas across their constituencies, following a marathon development review meeting held in Bengaluru on Tuesday. The directive was issued during a seven-hour session convened to review comprehensive development work across 27 districts.

MLAs were advised to set up these youth organisations at the panchayat level and oversee their proper functioning. The legislators were also asked to provide recommendations for selecting suitable candidates to serve as presidents of the newly formed Sanghas. The youth initiative was described as the outcome of long years of study.

In addition to the youth units, legislators were instructed to appoint six members to guarantee committees at the panchayat level and ensure the protection of party workers. Party district unit presidents were separately urged to begin work on constructing new party office buildings.

The review meeting also covered administrative and constituency matters. MLAs were directed to ensure that eligible voters do not face injustice during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Regarding administrative transfers, legislators were advised not to interfere in matters involving IAS and IPS officers, to avoid casteism in transfer decisions, and to ensure social justice in line with party high command directions.

Assurances were given to the MLAs that issues concerning drinking water, infrastructure, housing, irrigation, and other development projects in their respective constituencies would be discussed with senior ministers and officials before final decisions are made regarding fund allocations.

The review session took place a day after the state legislature's monsoon session ended abruptly amid opposition protests demanding the resignation of Minister B Nagendra over his alleged involvement in the Valmiki Corporation scam. District in-charge ministers, legislators, and senior administrative officials attended Tuesday's meeting. Further review meetings are scheduled for Wednesday with MLAs from Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, and Bengaluru South districts, alongside a separate meeting with Legislative Council members.
