Devdutt Padikkal Hits Maiden Test Century In India's 165-Run Win Over Sri Lanka

Bengaluru-based batter Devdutt Padikkal struck his maiden Test century, scoring 131 in the first innings to help steer India to a 165-run victory over Sri Lanka in the opening Test in Galle on Wednesday.

The left-hander's composed knock in physically demanding conditions helped India post a commanding total. Padikkal maintained the tempo throughout his innings and stitched key partnerships, setting up the foundation for the win before bowler Manav Suthar sealed the match with a 10-wicket haul.

India vice-captain K L Rahul praised his fellow Karnataka team-mate's resilience and adaptability during the post-match comments. Rahul highlighted that the hot and challenging weather tested the players physically, making Padikkal's milestone innings crucial to the outcome.

Rahul noted that witnessing Padikkal, whom he watched grow up in Bengaluru and represent Karnataka, reach his first Test hundred was a special moment. He expressed hope that Padikkal carries the confidence forward into the remainder of the tour and his career.

The 165-run victory marked a positive return to Sri Lanka for India following a 0-2 home series loss against South Africa. Rahul stated that the team executed its preparation well, particularly in batting against spin ahead of an upcoming home series against Australia.
