DCRE Probes Mahadevapura Police Over Land Dispute Case and Atrocities FIR

The Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE) Police Station in Shantinagar has initiated an enquiry into actions taken by the Mahadevapura police regarding a land dispute case involving contradictory complaints and court directives.
A man named Yatish M questioned the registration of a non-cognizable report (NCR) and a subsequent FIR against him by the Mahadevapura police. The police registered the initial NCR over allegations of abuse during a property dispute while Yatish was away from Bengaluru between June 25 and June 29 on a visit to Shirdi with his family.
The police action occurred despite a June 20 City Civil Court directive ordering the Mahadevapura Police Inspector to provide protection to petitioners Ramakrishna N, Gayathri N, Bhaskar N, and Yatish M. The court order was intended to prevent interference by third parties or the Karnataka Samata Sainik Dala and uphold a November 22, 2018 status quo order regarding the suit property.
According to the allegations, police acted solely on claims by complainant Byatappa, who represents the Karnataka Samata Sainik Dala, without conducting an inquiry or informing the petitioners. Byatappa approached the Sessions Court seeking an FIR, alleging that abusive language was used against him on June 26.
Following a July 8 direction from the City Civil Sessions Judge instructing the police to investigate and submit a report under Section 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) by September 28, the Mahadevapura Police Inspector registered an FIR on August 3 under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
The case has now drawn scrutiny from the DCRE Police Station in Shantinagar, which has started a formal probe into the handling of the dispute and the registration of the complaints.
