DAF-K Urges State to Stop Iskcon Food Supply at Mangaluru Wenlock Hospital

BENGALURU: The Drug Action Forum-Karnataka (DAF-K) has urged the Karnataka health department to direct Iskcon to stop supplying food to patients admitted at Government Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru.

According to DAF-K, the government hospital had previously been serving eggs and fish to approximately 700 patients on a daily basis. However, the facility shifted entirely to vegetarian food supply in 2020.

The forum expressed concern that the vegetarian and sattvik food provided by Iskcon may fail to offer adequate protein and essential nutrition required for patient care.

DAF-K emphasised that nutritious meals with sufficient protein are a critical component of medical treatment and patient recovery. The organisation stated that while it respects Iskcon's religious practices and sentiments, providing purely vegetarian food to hospital patients in need of balanced nutrition is unscientific and unwarranted.
