Customs Seize Hydroponic Ganja Worth Rs 5.9 Crore at Bengaluru Airport

Bengaluru Customs officials arrested two passengers arriving from Bangkok on consecutive days at the Kempegowda International Airport after seizing 16.86 kilograms of hydroponic ganja valued at Rs 5.9 crore.

The operations took place on June 4 and June 5 at Terminal 2 of the airport, where officials intercepted the two travelers in separate incidents and discovered the contraband concealed inside their baggage.

According to customs authorities, the first seizure occurred on Tuesday, June 4. A passenger arriving from Bangkok was stopped by officials at Terminal 2. Upon inspecting the traveler's baggage, officers discovered 6.66 kilograms of hydroponic ganja. The seized drugs in this incident are valued at approximately Rs 2.33 crore.

The following day, on Wednesday, June 5, officials intercepted a second passenger who had also arrived from Bangkok. A search of this passenger's checked-in baggage revealed 10.20 kilograms of hydroponic ganja, which has an estimated value of Rs 3.57 crore.

In both cases, the contraband was found hidden inside the luggage of the passengers. The Bengaluru Customs department confirmed the details of the twin seizures and the subsequent arrests.

The two accused individuals, whose names and nationalities have not been disclosed by the authorities, were arrested on the spot. Both passengers face prosecution under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Officials are conducting further investigations into the smuggling attempts.
