Court Orders SIT Probe After Witness in Prajwal Revanna Case Alleges Threats

A Special Court of Sessions in Bengaluru has directed the Special Investigation Team to investigate allegations that a key witness in a rape case against former MP Prajwal Revanna was threatened by supporters of the accused.

The Special Court of Sessions for criminal cases against former and present MPs and MLAs, which is trying the case, instructed the SIT, headed by Additional Director-General of Police B.K. Singh, to look into the matter and submit a report to the court.

The witness is a social worker who assisted the first alleged victim in coming forward to lodge a complaint against the former Member of Parliament. The complainant was a former househelp at the Revanna family’s residence in Holenarsipur. That complaint was the first case registered in the matter, based on which the SIT was originally constituted.

According to sources, the social worker told the court on August 20 that supporters of the accused had made threatening phone calls to her following her previous deposition. She also alleged that she was threatened outside the court. The witness stated before the court that persons supporting the accused should be held responsible if anything untoward were to happen to her or her son.

Sources noted that the identities of those who allegedly issued the threats are yet to be established, and the SIT probe will focus on identifying the individuals involved.

Prajwal Revanna has recently been under scrutiny after sleuths from the Central Crime Branch of the Bengaluru City Police caught him allegedly using a mobile phone and in possession of a pen drive inside the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
