Constitution Corner initiative launches at Jakkur bookstore in Bengaluru

A new civic initiative called 'Constitution Corner' has been launched at the Turning Pages bookstore in Jakkur, Bengaluru, to foster a public reading culture and discussion around the Indian Constitution, democracy, and civic values. Spearheaded by the citizens' collective #ReclaimConstitution in collaboration with the bookstore, the initiative will host its inaugural book discussion on July 11 at 3 p.m.
The initiative establishes dedicated spaces within bookstores where readers can discover, discuss, and engage with books on constitutional values, history, politics, rights, and public life. By bringing these conversations to local bookstores, the organizers aim to make the Constitution simpler, more accessible, and engaging for people from all walks of life.
The Jakkur bookstore is the first location to host a Constitution Corner. The space features a curated bookshelf with titles that encourage visitors to explore the Constitution beyond traditional legal texts and academic discourse. This bookshelf remains open and available to readers at all times.
A key feature of the initiative is a monthly book discussion series. These regular meetups are designed to bring readers together to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and engage in constructive dialogue.
According to the #ReclaimConstitution team, the project aims to connect reading with active community conversation. The collective stated that reading is about developing the ability to think critically, engage with diverse perspectives, and participate meaningfully in public life.
The team at Turning Pages bookstore noted that while most citizens know India has a Constitution, many may not understand its origins, the history behind it, or its daily relevance. They stated that the new discussion series is designed to change this understanding through regular community conversations.
Looking ahead, #ReclaimConstitution plans to expand the initiative by partnering with other bookstores across India. The collective aims to establish a growing network of community spaces where books serve as a starting point for informed citizenship and constitutional engagement.
