Civic authorities repair Haralur Main Road overnight after safety concerns

Commuters and residents in Haralur, Bengaluru, woke up to a smoother commute on Friday morning after civic authorities executed a rapid, overnight asphalting operation on the damaged Haralur Main Road.

The sudden transformation followed months of traffic snarls, potholes, and safety hazards along the critical stretch that connects Sarjapur Road with Hosur Road. Prior to the overnight repairs, the road was a major safety concern, with commuters reporting frequent skidding incidents, near-misses, and accidents.

The repair work was initiated after Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao and Bengaluru South City Corporation (BSCC) Commissioner KN Ramesh directed civic personnel to address the deteriorating road conditions. The issue had drawn widespread complaints from local apartment residents and daily office-goers.

To facilitate the work, the BSCC closed Haralur Road after 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, requesting commuters to avoid the stretch. By Friday morning, workers had completed the first round of asphalting on the section between Birla Junction and Prestige Ferns Residency.

The breakneck speed of the overnight operation won appreciation from the local community. Residents noted that the difference was immediately visible on Friday morning, as traffic moved much more smoothly and commuting became significantly less stressful.

Rohit Gurnani, a resident of Haralur, welcomed the prompt response from the authorities, noting that the improvement was clearly visible. While he pointed out that other issues like drainage, waterlogging, waste management, and encroached footpaths still need attention, he said the quick action showed that resident feedback was being heard.

While commuters are relieved by the immediate improvement, civic officials clarified that the work is not yet fully complete. The BSCC stated that drainage works in the area will continue, and two additional layers of asphalt will be laid once those works are finished.
