Chikkaballapur Police Uncover Family Murder Plot Faked as Midnight Robbery

The Chikkaballapur police have exposed a deadly murder plot in Bapujinagar where a family allegedly conspired to murder a 23-year-old woman and falsely framed the crime as a midnight robbery by burqa-clad intruders.
The victim, B Pushpalatha, who worked as a contract employee with the local RTO, was murdered on the night of May 28. Following the incident, the police arrested her sister-in-law, Bhavya, after forensic evidence shattered the family's elaborate cover-up.
The investigation began after Bhavya made a frantic call to the Chikkaballapur police control room. She claimed that two masked attackers had forced their way into the house, blinded her with pepper spray, assaulted her, and slit Pushpalatha's throat before fleeing with her mangalsutra. Bhavya then checked herself into a local hospital for treatment.
However, Chikkaballapur Superintendent of Police Kushal Chouksey and his team noticed several discrepancies at the crime scene and during their visit to Bhavya’s hospital bed. Forensic analysis revealed that the fatal cut on Pushpalatha’s neck had minimal blood flow, proving she was smothered to death before her throat was slit. Furthermore, medical examinations showed zero traces of pepper spray on Bhavya, and her body bore no signs of the physical assault she had described.
During interrogation by a team of women police officers and Chouksey, Bhavya confessed to the crime. The investigation revealed that Bhavya had been facing extortion. After deserting her husband to elope with a truck driver named Krishna, Krishna began blackmailing her with private videos. Bhavya sought help from a relative, Lohit (alias Lolly), who then launched his own extortion racket, bleeding Bhavya of Rs 6 lakh.
When Lohit demanded more cash, Bhavya confided in her mother, N Vijayalakshmi, and grandmother, Nagamma. The three women plotted to orchestrate a fake robbery, using Lohit to kill Pushpalatha over an existing family feud and steal her gold to satisfy Lohit's financial demands.
On May 27, while Pushpalatha’s husband and father-in-law were away on a pilgrimage, Bhavya invited Pushpalatha to stay the night. At midnight, Bhavya unlocked the front door to let Lohit inside, who smothered Pushpalatha with a pillow and slit her throat.
