Carpenter arrested for murdering friend and dumping body in Nisarga Layout park

The Gangammagudi police have arrested a 30-year-old carpenter, Ravindar Kumar, for allegedly murdering his friend and stuffing his body into a sack, which was abandoned in a BDA park at Nisarga Layout in north Bengaluru. The arrest, which took place in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, on May 20, comes a month after the victim's body was discovered by local residents.
The victim was identified as Vidhya Prasad, alias Vidhyabharathi, a 45-year-old painter also from Uttar Pradesh. Prasad had arrived in Bengaluru two months prior to the incident in search of work and was staying with Kumar in a rented house in north Bengaluru.
The murder came to light on the morning of April 24 when a woman walking in Nisarga Layout noticed a suspicious sack in the park. She alerted her husband, who found a human leg protruding from the bag. The couple immediately notified the police.
The Gangammagudi police initially struggled to identify the heavily decomposed body. After analyzing CCTV footage from hundreds of cameras, investigators spotted two individuals riding a scooter with a sack on the footrest. The police later contacted the husband of the victim's younger sister, who identified the deceased as Prasad.
According to the police, Kumar confessed that he and Prasad got into a heated argument while under the influence of alcohol on the night of April 20. During the altercation, Kumar repeatedly struck Prasad on his head, chest, stomach, and back.
The following morning, Prasad showed signs of distress. Kumar attempted to purchase painkillers and other tablets from a nearby medical store, claiming his friend was vomiting from heavy intoxication, but the shopkeeper refused to sell them without a prescription. When Kumar and his associate returned from work later that afternoon, they found Prasad dead.
Fearing arrest, Kumar and two accomplices stuffed Prasad's body into a sack, transported it on a scooter, and dumped it in the Nisarga Layout BDA park before fleeing the city by train that same night. While Kumar has been arrested, his two accomplices remain at large.
