BNCC Fines Six Bengaluru Hotels Rs 1.6 Lakh for Food Safety Violations

The Bengaluru North City Corporation on Thursday imposed a total fine of Rs 1.6 lakh on six hotels and food establishments across Byatarayanapura and Yelahanka divisions for violating food safety, hygiene, and solid waste management rules.
The enforcement action was conducted by municipal health officials following directives from Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar. During the inspections, authorities uncovered widespread lapses including poor waste segregation, unhygienic premises, fly infestations, and the illegal use of single-use plastic.
Peepai Brewery & Kitchen received the steepest penalty, with officials issuing a fine of Rs 80,000. Inspectors at the venue discovered expired cooking oil alongside improperly covered and unlabelled meat inside cold storage units. The establishment also failed to produce invoices indicating the purchase dates for the stored meat.
Hyatt Centric was penalised Rs 40,000 after inspectors noted improper waste segregation and the presence of flies on the premises. Civic authorities confirmed that the luxury hotel had breached both Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations and solid waste management norms.
Fines were also issued to several other popular eateries in the northern divisions. Thalassery Restaurant was fined Rs 20,000 for unhygienic conditions, poor waste segregation, fly breeding, and the use of banned single-use plastic items. Nandhana Palace faced a penalty of Rs 15,000 for similar infractions regarding sanitation, waste disposal, and plastic usage.
Additionally, Chickpet Donne Biriyani was fined Rs 5,000 for hygiene and waste management lapses, while Swathi Hotel was served an official notice regarding unhygienic conditions found on its premises.
