BNCC Deploys Four GPS-Equipped Prahari Patrol Vehicles to Tackle Illegal Waste Dumping

The Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) has ramped up its surveillance against the illegal dumping of solid waste and construction and demolition (C&D) debris by deploying four 'Prahari' patrol vehicles equipped with GPS-enabled front and rear dash cameras.

BNCC Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar launched the expanded fleet on Saturday, adding two new vehicles to the two that were already operational. The vehicles are scheduled to patrol areas within the Corporation limits round-the-clock across two shifts.

The surveillance initiative is designed to focus on garbage-vulnerable points, black spots, major roads, markets, vacant sites, and other public spaces where illegal dumping is frequently reported.

Under the monitoring mechanism, any violations detected during patrolling will be recorded through photographs and video footage, complete with timestamps and GPS locations. The Corporation stated that individuals, organisations, or vehicle owners caught dumping waste will be identified through this visual evidence and location data, followed by penalties and disciplinary measures under applicable rules.

“People should not assume that they can dump waste and get away without being noticed. Strict action will be taken against those violating the rules,” Kumar said.

In addition to checking roadside and public dumping, the Prahari vehicles will monitor the illegal disposal of construction and demolition debris, dumping by commercial establishments, and the spillage of waste during transportation. The surveillance system will also maintain watch over cleaned black spots to prevent garbage from accumulating in those areas again.
