BMTC Deploys 150 Extra Buses from KBS and Mysuru Road Station for Holiday Rush

The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is deploying 150 additional buses for outstation services on Thursday, October 1, operating from Kempegowda Bus Station and the Mysuru Road Bus Station to assist the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) ahead of the long holiday weekend.

As per an order issued by the BMTC on Wednesday, the extra services are being run to accommodate the surge in travelers journeying from Bengaluru to multiple destinations across Karnataka ahead of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.

Of the 150 deployed vehicles, 100 buses will operate out of Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS) after 8 p.m. Another 50 buses are scheduled to depart from the Mysuru Road Bus Station after 5 p.m. to meet passenger demand on southern routes.

The extra services departing from Kempegowda Bus Station will operate to Shivamogga, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Hosadurga, Hosapete, Ballari, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and Dharmasthala. Meanwhile, the services from the Mysuru Road Bus Station are designated for passengers travelling towards Mysuru as well as Malavalli and Kollegal.

According to officials, the temporary arrangement is intended to ease operational pressure on KSRTC services and prevent severe station crowding while ensuring commuters reach their destinations. BMTC has directed its divisional traffic officials to coordinate directly with KSRTC personnel on the ground to allocate extra buses to routes experiencing the highest congestion and ticket demand.

The deployment precedes an anticipated spike in inter-city travel triggered by the October 2 public holiday followed immediately by the weekend. BMTC has regularly supplemented KSRTC operations with its fleet during festive periods and extended weekends in recent years to manage citywide travel surges.
